Something from nothing

Just fiddling around with  some little things...fun to make something from nothing. Those little plastic hangers that sox are packaged on, and three or four buttons, and a dab of glue..... all decked out in tuxedos!! Could be a pin doll, or package tie-on or greeting card, etc...

Wrapped wire armature...

I was cleaning the craft room.....came across some wire stems I’d saved from silk flowers used for something else.
I bent and twisted the wires into a body shape, wrapped it with floral tape, then with strips of polyester batting; then wrapped legs and lower body with a strip of nylon organza fabric. Stood her in a weighted bottle, pinned on a head (from my stash of  ‘parts’), pinned on some wool-roving for hair, draped her with a piece of silky blouse fabric, and Voila! An art piece!!!
Well, it’s a beginning..... We'll see what happens......

Horsing around again!

Well, I have done a bit of doll-making, of sorts, this summer. Here is a little group of lapel pins I just finished. Spot found them just too tempting to resist very carefully reaching out to just touch one.
Some of them are recycled silk ties.

Free pattern for nativity set figures

My June givaeaway is so late getting posted, that this one will run for June and July! And for something different, I am giving one copy of my CD pattern for the Nativity Set. Alas, NOT the finished dolls! This will be drawn for on August 1st, so you should have time to use this pattern for all 9 figures to create your own unique set of bottle-cover dolls, or to create a wonderful gift, by Christmas. Leave a comment or email clothdollsbyvada@gmail to enter
You can purchase this cd  at Dollmakers Journey.
Or you can get it directly from me for $15.00, (post paid)

March Doll Winner is Lynne

Congratulations to Lynne, whose name was drawn (as in Feb. 1 posting) by Wicket, as the winner of the drawing for Gwinn or Barrett, the 'free' doll for March. As soon as Lynne chooses 'the red one or the blue one', and emails her mailing address to me, one of these whimsical fellows will be on their way to her house! Thanks to all who entered. Be sure to check back monthly, leave a comment, and you could be the next winner. April's featured doll will be announced later today.

March Doll-of-the-Month give-away.

Well, March has arrived, and with it the changeable spring weather. One can only grin and bare it, as this pair has discovered.

This pattern by Jill Maas was such fun to make, they remind me a bit of penguins, so I named them Gwinn and Barret.

The winner of March's drawing may choose whichever one they wish.

Winner will be announced on April First, so you might think of them as April Fools.

Just leave a comment below, or email clothdollsbyvada@gmail.com to enter, and Gwinn or Barret could be bringing his smile to your house very soon.

Tell you friends to enter, too.

And Elizabeth goes to...ta-da!...Wendy

It was Spot's turn to choose the winner of Elizabeth, February's free doll.

He drew...Wendy's name from the five entries.

Congrats to Wendy.

Meet Wendy and her Mom, Joyce at

an Art and Collectibles shop right here in Versailles, KY.

It's De-Lovely!

I just had to have Cindee Moyer's new pattern, 'It's De-Lovely!' and they are a joy to make, even when you goof as many times as I did when making this pair! First, I cut the faces the wrong way (as if I've never made a doll before!) and so they are very long slim faces. Hers is not so bad, but I'm not happy with his, nor his expression. To top it off, I stuck my finger in his eye (poor guy) while the paint was wet, and smudged his cheek, creating, now, an ill-concealed scar. I may yet make a whole new head for him. Then, again, maybe not. I'll be making another pair or two very soon, I'm sure. Like, tomorrow!! At least one of them should turn out to look like Cindee's.   A delightful, delovely design!!
